ROLE:
The (Associate) Director of Development will work with Athletics and academic units to develop donor relationships and solicitation strategies among mid-range annual donors and major gift prospects. The (Associate) Director will devise marketing strategies and outreach opportunities to attract major gift prospects. He/She will place a strategic emphasis on the development and cultivation of new prospects and the stewardship of existing and prospective donors. Must be available to travel and spend periods away from home and the office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to accomplish each of the below duties satisfactorily:

  1. Identify new annual donors and other major donor prospects. Develop and implement strategies to introduce, cultivate and solicit gifts. Assist university-wide efforts to identify, cultivate and solicit major donors (including corporate funding and gifts in kind), with a focus on donors to Athletics and academic units.
  2. With members of the Development Team, vet donors and prospects through methods of discovery, to determine donor affinity and capacity for Vision 2025.
  3. Build and manage a portfolio of 150 potential and current mid-range ($1,000+) annual donors and prospects, as well as major gift ($10,000+) prospects and donors.
  4. Personally visit and cultivate 20 prospects or donors per month, solicit prospects and donors for gifts and pledges as appropriate.
  5. Solicit multi-year pledges to priority capital projects such as Vision 2025.
  6. Serve as the primary fundraising representative at all appropriate events, programs, and games for Athletics.
  7. Establish and recruit volunteer leaders for the Eagle Athletic Advisory Board and the Eagle Athletics Initiative Cabinet.
  8. Become familiar with, and train other development staff members on, NCAA fundraising guidelines.
  9. Work with all coaches on team-specific goals and plans for fundraising, including special events and campaigns by reviewing copy, production, and distribution.
  10. Develop and implement plans to increase the number of gifts to athletics year to year, and ideally increasing the number of gifts to each specific team.
  11. Working with the Annual Giving Team, promote the Eagle Athletic Club.
  12. Develop a corporate relations program that may initiate philanthropically with Athletics, but will mature into campus-wide engagement including, but not limited to, special event sponsorships, Alumni & Family Relations programming, and Career Services.
  13. Develop marketing and collateral pieces to support a variety of platforms for Athletics and academic units.
  14. Assist in the identification and recruitment of new volunteer leaders for various university governance and advisory boards and committees, including but not limited to the Foundation Board of Trustees, the President's Advisory Council, and the Alumni Board.
  15. Other duties as may be assigned from time to time

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and three to five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working in a university or non-profit setting as a professional highly preferred. Familiarity with NCAA fundraising rules a plus, but not required. Familiarity with Concordia University Irvine and its mission are a plus, but not required.
