SUMMARY:

The Transfer Coordinator will provide information and enrollment assistance to community college students wishing to transfer to CUI. The coordinator will be responsible for orienting, tracking and supporting these students during their time at the university. The Transfer Coordinator will develop programming for transfer students that keeps them involved

with faculty, staff and other students and provides access to academic and wraparound services. As a Success Coach, the coordinator is responsible for providing student-centered and holistic academic advising and guidance for transfer students. The coaches' work to support university and grant initiatives and strategic goals, drive measurable student outcomes, and improve retention by engaging in successful advising techniques. In addition, coaches are part of a web of

supportive relationships around the student and serve as integral players among campus-wide support offices.

TRANSFER SUCCESS COACH

  1. Implement and execute HSI grant initiatives, particularly success programs to assist Hispanic students transferring into Concordia
  2. Create welcome materials, orientation presentations, and supportive programming for incoming transfer students in each cohort

In collaboration with the admissions department oversee and map the transfer experience and communications from prospective students to graduation. Will cooperate with Admissions on transfer events and visits where

  1. applicable.
  2. Develop materials and workshops to support individual and group transfer student sessions
  3. Assist students with four-year institution transfer decisions
  4. Create, manage, and share appropriately cohort tracking sheets of transfer students
  5. Propose and advise a transfer club in collaboration with students to lead club meetings and activities
  6. Plan intentional monthly programming in collaboration with key offices to support students
  7. Assists students with major and career exploration and development
  8. Participate in an assist with the coordinator of departmental programs that support student development and retention initiatives
  9. Attends and participates in monthly HSI committee meetings
  1. Other duties as assigned

ACADEMIC ADVISING ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:


  1. Formulate individualized graduation plans for assigned students.
  2. Create and bi-annually audit and update graduation plans.
  3. Interpret and record academic placement.
  4. Regularly communicate with students via email, phone conversations, and one-on-one appointments and document communications
  5. Advise (with an 90% degree of accuracy) students to make informed decisions regarding choice of major, dropping or adding classes, and satisfactory academic progress
  6. Participate in carrying out registration procedures including satisfactory academic progress toward graduation
  7. Evaluate course selection for students for Summer, Fall, and Spring semesters
  8. Assist students with identification of vocation, long term goals, and career plans
  9. Responsible for knowledge of academic policies, majors, minors, and programs for current catalog year within the first 6-9 months
  10. Collaboratively create strategy plans for academic at-risk students
  11. Partner with faculty and departments to best serve the students
  12. Collaborate with advising team on additional departmental tasks: a) updating checklists for all undergraduate majors; b) mapping courses in major and assessing course schedule conflicts; c) reviewing and editing four-year course grid; d) updating web site information; or e) comparing the four-year grid with class schedule to verify course offerings
  13. Utilize Concordia University Irvine information systems to support delivery of advising
  14. Serve on appropriate department, college and/or campus advisory committees
  15. Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university Master's degree preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in enrollment management or academic advising at a college level or related experience.
  • 1-3 years academic coaching with students who struggle academically or experience working with at-risk students or managing academic support programs
