OFFICE PROFILE:

The Office of Integrated Marketing and Communications leads university and program branding, marketing and communications' strategies.

 

ROLE:

The Director of Social Media (DSM) is responsible for creating social media strategic initiatives that promote brand recognition through authentic online engagement, and develops, manages, optimizes, and executes social media strategy, policy, compliance and training. The DSM also monitors and manages online mentions as a member of the CUI public relations team.

  • Appointed by Associate VP of Marketing & Communications
  • Approved by the Executive Vice President/COO

 

STAFF RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communications (AVPMC).
  • Interacts and functions cooperatively with Marketing, Enrollment Services staff, Information Technology Services, academic leadership, and other campus personnel.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:

  1. Develops and leads social media strategy for the university.
  2. Leads the development of social media policies and guidelines for the university.
  3. Manages main university social media accounts.
  4. Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team on enrollment and university marketing and communications initiatives
  5. Collaborates with the Director of Communications on developing communications strategies and tactics for UG Admissions.
  6. Supervises the UG Admissions marketing lead's social media responsibilities.
  7. Interfaces with Marketing and Communications team members, and directors of graduate and adult admissions. Social media content creator, writer, curator.
  8. Advocates for social media opportunities for the university, and communicates with the campus about social media as a public relations tool, a marketing tactic, and a communications channel.
  9. Develops documents and training on social media best practices and compliance policies.
  10. Maintains and updates database including relevant social media information (passwords, /logins, training resources, account master list, social media community manager master list, etc.).
  11. Social media manager for university in PR role as she/he works with university social media community managers to empower, educate, and coach as they represent the university to their particular communities on Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  12. Creates, maintains, and executes a social media editorial calendar and posting schedule based on strategic goals, business priorities, breaking news, social memes, and trends.
  13. Responsible for management of University social properties including, but not limited to, sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+, Instagram and LinkedIn.
  14. Responsible for identifying influencers and supporters, spotting trends, moderating comments and establishing community culture and tone.
  15. Provides and reviews analytics, and makes recommendations on creative. Creates reports on monthly performance as well as on overall campaign performance.
  16. Designs creative through Photoshop and other creative software and apps like Canva, Word Swag, etc.
  17. Develops and maintains university blog themes, and recruits blog authors
  18. Serves as a primary contact for third-party social media partners and vendors to implement new social media tools and best practices to support marketing communications and admissions initiatives.
  19. Responsible for planning and budgetary control of social media.
  20. Designs, manages, trains, and executes internship program in Social Media department.
  21. Works with directors of communications on University Crisis Communication Plan for appropriate social media posts.
  22. Must be available to manage social media, CRM, and other responsibilities as needed beyond normal working hour (i.e., receiving and sending emails, tweets, Facebook posts, etc.).
  23. Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Trains social media community managers.
  • Empowers, educates, and coaches social media community managers across the university on the use, policies and guidelines of social media as they work with their particular communities on social media.
