SUMMARY:

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions, under the direction of the Division of Enrollment facilitates and oversees the admission and first time enrollment of traditional and transfer undergraduate students to Concordia University Irvine.  The international student population is an integral portion of the overall university enrollment structure. 

 

ROLE:

The Director of International Student Admissions and Operations spearheads the university's international student recruiting efforts, in close collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, International Center, and the academic departments.   The key task of this individual and the department they manage will be to recruit and enroll international students to traditional undergraduate programs, pathway programs, and the Intensive English Program (IEP).

 

STAFF RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Program Development
  • Works closely with the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, Director of International Student Recruitment and Admissions, and the Director of the International Center.
  • Collaborates with international recruitment and admissions, the Registrar's office, CRM team, undergraduate and graduate academic departments, and the student services team.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following are within compliance of the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) in the realm of international student programs and services. Other duties may be assigned from time to time.

 

Mission and Strategic Planning

  1. Collaborate with leadership in the implementation of the mission and strategic planning of the university's undergraduate and graduate admissions units.

 

International Student Recruiting, Admissions, and Operations

  1. Work in conjunction with the International Center, Undergraduate Admissions, and CUI's various graduate programs to develop and implement an international student recruiting strategy
  2. Travel (domestic and international) to recruit international students
  3. Recruit US and international students
  4. Recruit international students currently in the United States
  5. Establish relationships with school leaders and agents
  6. Serve as liaison and build international partnerships
  7. Actively recruit students for the IEP program as a bridge to the traditional undergraduate program at CUI
  8. Serve as liaison to vendors who assist in the international student recruitment effort
  9. Represent the university at meetings and conferences as requested by the Executive Director
  10. Attend regular weekly meetings and collaborate with the Office of Admissions

 

Diversity

  1. Promote environments that are characterized by open and continuous communication that deepens understanding of one's own identity, culture, and heritage, as well as that of others.
  2. Orient international students to the culture of the host country and promote and deepen international students' understanding of cross-cultural differences while building cross-cultural competencies.
  3. Demonstrate a high degree of cross-cultural competency and sensitivity while treating differences between value systems and cultures non-judgmentally; avoid the use of pejorative stereotypical statements.

  • Recommended by the Associate Provost: Vice President for Enrollment and Program Development
  • Approved by the Executive Vice-President: Chief Operating Officer

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Skills in using CRM systems and CRM analytics
  • Organizational skills with the ability to work with little supervision
  • Proficient in English writing, spelling, grammar, and speaking
  • Sensitivity to individuals of diverse cultural and ethnic groups
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to be flexible to changing conditions and needs
  • Ability to work effectively with and through other people
  • Working knowledge of computer software used in this office
  • Willingness to learn new or additional job-related tasks
  • Knowledge of and willingness to stay up to date with immigration policies as they relate to international students
  • Awareness that behavior and dress should be appropriate for the environment of a Christian university

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:            

Minimum of a bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred; experience with international students services and international student recruiting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
