The Position:

Concordia University Irvine seeks a Dean for its School of Professional Studies to commence on July 1, 2018.

The School, with over 20 full-time faculty and 30 adjunct faculty, and a total operating budget of $2.2 million, includes undergraduate programs in Business, Nursing, Healthcare, Liberal Arts, Non-Profit Leadership, and Organizational Psychology.  The school is also home to graduate programs in Coaching and Athletics Administration, International Studies, Counseling, Organizational Leadership, Healthcare Management, and Nursing.  This position leads the new and rapidly-growing Townsend Institute.

Role:

The dean of the school is charged with facilitating the fulfillment of the mission and vision of the school and works with the Provost and all others in the school to insure academic quality and exemplary service to students, to strengthen the school's financial position, and to communicate effectively within the community and others about what it means to be an outstanding Lutheran Christian university.  The dean has strategic responsibility for the administration of the school including academic planning, curriculum, instruction, faculty and learning resources, internal and external communications, marketing and promotions, alumni, employer, community, and donor relations. The dean oversees the school's reputation management efforts by serving as initial spokesperson for the school as well as marketer, brand builder, and chief identity officer.

Required:

  • An earned doctorate or terminal degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership roles in higher education. Significant administrative and supervisory experience in a University, with a preference for experience in disciplines specifically related to the School.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience at the college level.

 Major responsibilities:

  1. Provides leadership and vision for the strategic growth and continuous improvement of the school.
  2. Serves as a knowledgeable resource for trends in higher education that provide opportunities for new programs that fit the university mission.
  3. Reviews assessment plans for each program and monitors the program review processes.
  4. Collaborates with the marketing and admissions teams toward meeting program enrollment goals.
  5. Works closely with program academic advising to monitor student success and faculty performance in regards to academic program review.

We seek candidates who understand and value a Christian liberal arts approach to higher education and are willing to invest themselves in the lives of students. The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in an appropriate discipline. Rank and salary will be determined by credentials and experience.
