Assistant Athletic Trainer

Are you looking for a career where you can apply your athletic training expertise in a flourishing university athletics program? If so, working as an Assistant Athletic Trainer may be a great job for you. As the Assistant Athletic Trainer, you will be responsible for the daily operation of athletic training services under the supervision and consultation with the Head Athletic Trainer and Team Physicians (including injury prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation), documentation, and game/practice coverage as assigned for 22 intercollegiate athletic teams. As the Assistant Athletic Trainer, you will help with education and counseling of student-athletes in various health related topics. You will serve as a Clinical Preceptor within the CAATE-Accredited Athletic Training Education Program. You will also travel for games and events, and perform various administrative tasks.

 

About the Athletic Training Program at Concordia:

The CUI Athletic Department hosts 22 intercollegiate teams with over 450 student-athletes. Concordia University Irvine is a NCAA Division 2 institution participating in the PacWest, MPSF, GCC, WWPA, MCLA, and WWLL conferences. The Athletic Training program at Concordia provides student athletes professional training services needed to maintain the physical health needed to perform to the best of their ability.

CUI is located in the City of Irvine, nestled in the heart of Southern Orange County, and offers access to a variety of cultural and recreational amenities within the surrounding communities of Santa Ana, Costa Mesa, Tustin, Newport Beach, and Laguna Beach.

A day in the life of an Assistant Athletic Trainer:

An average day in this position may consist of providing athletic training pre-practice services for assigned sports, providing coverage for practices and games, and integrating injury prevention programs with athletics, and consulting with athletes to develop injury prevention and rehabilitation programs.

 

What you need to be qualified for this job:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university
  • NATA BOC certification
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification for the Professional Rescuer or the American Heart Association equivalent
  • At least two years of experience in athletic training for intercollegiate athletics
  • Knowledge and understanding of HIPAA regulations, and the ability to abide by the NATA Code of Ethics
  • Commitment to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for faculty, staff, and student-athletes
